Removalists in Paddington — Hartmann Removals

Paddington is terrace rows on narrow streets. A 2-bed terrace with two movers runs $750–$1,050 + GST. Oxford Street clearway hours and whether your block has rear-laneway access are the two things that shift the hours on a Paddo move, and they’re the first two questions we ask on the quote call.

Moving in Paddington

What Paddington actually involves.

Paddington 2021 is one of Sydney’s densest terrace-house precincts — narrow-frontage Victorian and Edwardian rows along Glenmore Road, Cascade Street, Cooper Street, Underwood Street and the streets off Oxford and Five Ways. Most terraces are 2- or 3-storey with narrow internal staircases, and the single biggest time saver is rear-laneway access. If the block backs onto a lane, the truck can park continuously instead of waiting out Oxford Street traffic.

Oxford Street is the main east-west arterial through Paddington and carries bus routes, weekday clearway hours, and Saturday night pedestrian density around the bars and restaurants. For addresses on or immediately off Oxford we aim for weekday mid-morning windows (roughly 10am–2pm), when trucks can sit kerbside on the side streets without a clearway conflict.

Residential parking in Paddington is permit-zoned — Woollahra Council on the north side of Oxford and Waverley Council on the south. Resident permit zones mean trucks need a plan, either a short kerbside stage or a rear-lane load-in. We ask which council side you’re on during the quote call so the staging plan matches the day.

Before you book

What to tell us when you call.

The quicker we know these, the tighter the hours range on your quote.

01

Does your block have rear-lane access?

Rear laneways save meaningful time on Paddington terrace moves. Cascade Lane, Farrell Ave, Little Comber, the laneways off Glenmore Road — if your block backs onto one, send us the lane name and we’ll plan the load from there.

02

Woollahra or Waverley side?

Paddington is split between the two councils at Oxford Street. Permit zones and parking restrictions differ slightly. Let us know which side — it affects the truck staging plan, not the price.

03

Oxford Street clearway hours

Weekday AM and PM peaks have clearways along much of Oxford. Weekday mid-morning (10am–2pm) is the cleanest kerbside window for addresses on or just off Oxford.

04

Narrow staircases and large items

Paddington terrace stairs are tight 180-degree turns. L-couches, king beds and tall wardrobes sometimes need a quick disassembly — we carry the tools and straps, but a heads-up on the quote call speeds the day.

Common moves

Where Paddington is moving.

The four lanes we run most often from Paddington. Same hourly rate, same inclusions, same insurance cover on every run.

01

Paddington Sydney CBD

via Oxford Street · ~10–20 min off-peak

Short and constant lane — Paddington terraces to CBD towers and city-fringe apartments. Weekday AM and PM clearways on Oxford Street shape kerbside staging.

02

Paddington Surry Hills

via Oxford Street · ~5–10 min

One of the shortest lanes we run. Terrace-to-terrace with narrow stairs at both ends — rear-lane access changes the hours more than the drive does.

03

Paddington Bondi Junction / Bondi

via Oxford Street / Bondi Road · ~15–25 min

Popular upgrade lane — Paddington renters to Bondi Junction apartments or Bondi walk-ups. Access shifts from rear-lane to stair-heavy walk-up on the same quote.

04

Paddington North Shore

via Eastern Distributor / Harbour Bridge · ~25–40 min

Family-upgrade run — Paddington terraces to Mosman, Neutral Bay and beyond. We time the bridge crossing outside 7–9am and 4–6pm to keep the truck moving.

Paddington FAQ

Paddington removalist FAQs.

How much does a Paddington removalist cost in 2026?

A 1-bed Paddington flat or terrace with two movers is $450–$750 + GST at our $150/hr rate and 3–5 typical hours. A 2-bed terrace runs $750–$1,050. Rear-lane access blocks finish toward the lower end; street-only access or third-floor walk-ups push toward the top of the range.

Do I need a parking permit for the truck in Paddington?

Usually not. For most terrace moves we either use rear-lane access or stage the truck kerbside in a short window. If the address is on a resident-permit street with no rear lane and tight parking, either Woollahra or Waverley Council can issue a moving-vehicle permit for a small fee — we’ll flag it on the quote if it’s worth organising.

Can you handle Paddington terrace stairs?

It’s a large share of what we do. 180-degree narrow stair turns are standard in Paddington; we bring shoulder straps, furniture pads and bed-frame tools as a default. Large L-couches and king beds sometimes need a quick disassembly — we handle that on the day.

Do you do same-day Paddington moves?

Yes, subject to availability — call before 10am. Same-day works best for studios, 1-beds and single-room share-house moves. Larger 3-bed terraces are harder to fit same-day during the working week.

Are you insured for heritage Paddington terraces?

Public liability and goods-in-transit insurance on every move. Paddington’s heritage conservation status applies to building works, not to moving — so the move itself isn’t affected, but we’re extra careful with narrow hallway architraves and period details. Floor protection and blanket wrap are standard.

Do you handle Oxford Street addresses?

Yes. We plan around the weekday AM and PM peak clearways — mid-morning is the working window for Oxford Street kerbside truck staging. For Oxford addresses with rear-lane access, we use the lane instead and avoid the clearway question entirely.

Which parts of Paddington do you cover?

All of Paddington postcode 2021, including the Five Ways and Juniper Hall areas and the borders with Woollahra, Centennial Park and Darlinghurst. Same hourly rates, same inclusions — only the access changes.
